I had a neighbour called “Georgettan”. We children hung around him, chatted with him and asked many questions to him. He cleared our doubts, and encouraged us to think more. We admired him in those days. Even though he was a knowledge bank, he couldn’t use of his abilities and he didn’t reach high as everyone expected of him. So, I thought of sharing the many three steps in achieving wisdom.
We always think after graduating or getting a job we needn’t to study anything.
“Hooray. the long 15 years of studies have finished. Now I am free… No more exams and sleepless nights…”
Actually, this is the dumbest thought we have. Learning is a continuous process. Every day we learn something new. But the knowledge we acquire in a every day process is lost eventually. To Incorporate what we studied into wisdom we should go through three stages
- Gathering
- Learning
- Doing
Everyone knows “smoking is injurious to health”. We gathered that information from watching ads or may be someone told you about it or you have read it somewhere. But if you don’t know the reason behind it, then you are still in first stage. when the gathered information is applied to your life you have reached the stage “doing”.
Gathering
Our brain stores everything we hear or read, but it only remembers the things which we are interested or what we recall frequently. So, if we don’t give enough attention to the data, what we gathered will be forgotten soon.
Learning
Here the gathered data is processed. In order to do so ask two questions, “WHY” and “HOW” to what we gathered. These questions will help you to understand the data more.
Doing
In this stage the data gathered and processed are applied in your life. The real-life application will help you to understand better. What we learnt is verified unknowingly in this stage. We can decide whether to adapt it or ignore it.
Let’s go through an example
Gathering:Yoga is good for health.
Learning: Why Yoga is good for you?How it will help you to energize and relax?
Doing: Make yoga a part of your life.
These three stages will help you to adapt new things in to your life. This will help you cultivate new and good habits which can make your life better.
Share with me , what all good things you learnt have adapted to your life.
